What is it?
Overeating is the act of eating more than your body needs, resulting in feeling uncomfortably full. While all individuals overeat from time to time, chronic overeating can lead to obesity and associated complications. Individuals who overeat regularly may due so because of a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
Behaviors and Signs
- Eating to the point of feeling uncomfortably full
- Stomach pain/nausea
- Bloating
- Feeling tired or lethargic
- Having difficulty slowing or stopping eating
- Feeling out of control
Health Risks
- Overweight and obesity, increasing the risk for cardiovascular disease.
- Type 2 diabetes due to irregular eating patterns and potential weight gain.
- High blood pressure and high cholesterol levels.
- Psychological issues such as anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.
- Acid reflux
- Disrupted hunger regulation
