Treatment Overview
OSFED is an eating disorder classification for individuals who do not meet the full criteria for diagnosis with another eating disorder. Examples include individuals with bingeing and purging symptoms who do not meet the frequency criteria for Bulimia, individuals who binge but do not meet the frequency criteria for Binge Eating Disorder, purging disorder or night eating syndrome. Individuals diagnosed with OSFED are not less severe than the other eating disorder diagnosis, they can have very dangerous eating habits, disturbed body image and low self-esteem which can impact their physical and mental functioning.
Each of these disorders is serious and can have profound impacts on physical and mental health. They require professional treatment, which may include therapy, nutritional education, and sometimes medication. Remember, these disorders are not choices, but complex mental health conditions that require compassion and understanding.
